Outcome application
site navigation
Outcome is a multi-language, multi-test application that allows the clinician to track patient outcomes on a Palm Powered handheld computer.
Rationale
Evaluating a patient's status is central to rehabilitation medicine; for example, following a patient's recovery, or determining the effectiveness of a treatment. Currently functional evaluations are also used to predict resource use and outcomes in inpatient medical rehabilitation.
However, two major obstacles prevent the widespread systematic use of outcome evaluations:
- The workload required to convert 'paper and pencil' tests into an electronic format.
- The difficulty of analyzing and interpreting test scores.
Outcome overcomes these two obstacles with one easy-to-use solution.

Each facility has its own database. Registered handheld or desktop applications are allowed to manage the database. Facility records are periodically sent to a central web site for a free backup and to build up a regional/national database and calibrate each test. The facilities download new tests and their calibration from the central database.

Outcome benefits
Outcome benefits to the clinician
* Convenience and time savings.
* Generation of easy to interpret report.
* Elimination of data transcription errors.
* Record tracing.
* Data sharing with colleagues.
* Wireless access to patient records from anywhere in the clinic.
Outcome benefits to the administrator
* A vehicle to a systematic evaluation.

Data analysis service
Rasch analysis is used to convert ordinal scores into linear measures in a way that is independent of the test difficulty. Supply our web-based database with your data and get our quarterly analysis report in order to:
* Maintain a national / regional reference database.
* Calibrate each test with the Rasch model.
* Follow admission and discharge statistics.
* Follow test performance across time or region.
* Examine response coherence.
* Express scores and recovery on a linear scale.
* Compare test usage among patients / evaluators / facilities / regions.
* Compare scores across patients / facilities / regions.
